Sox call up Hansack, place Timlin on the DL

Mike Timlin has been placed on the DL, signaling that he’s still not fully recovered from his oblique injuries. Let’s just hope it’s not anything beyond that, like a shoulder or an elbow.

To replace him on the roster, the Red Sox have recalled pitcher Devern Hansack from AAA Pawtucket, who wowed many at the end of last year by pitching five innings of no-hit ball in a rain-shortened game at home against Baltimore on October 1, 2006. He has been racking up the strikeouts at Pawtucket, and with Jon Lester‘s cramp the other day, is the logical choice to fill out the roster. I think this pretty much signals the end of Julian Tavarez‘s stint as starter #5. He did a respectable fill-in job, but there are enough other quality guys waiting to take the hot seat that he doesn’t need to sit in it any more.
