On the Horizon: Buchholz fans eight straight

Clay Buchholz is doing some nice things on the farm. In a start last Friday, he fanned eight straight hitters, breaking the previous Red Sox record of seven set by none other than Josh Beckett.

This is just icing on the cake for Buchholz, who is putting together a pretty fantastic year at Portland. In seven starts, he’s gone 1-1 with a miniscule 1.82 ERA. He’s struck out 53 batters in just 39 2/3 innings, walking just seven. That’s what the front office likes to see. Opposing hitters have managed just a .182 average against him, so look for him to get a promotion to Pawtucket soon. He will definitely be up for the big show in September, if not earlier.
