Donnelly having Tommy John surgery

Now we know why the Sox spent all their effort landing Eric Gagne today, instead of acquiring a bat or a fourth outfielder. Brendan Donnelly revealed that he will undergo Tommy John reconstructive surgery on his throwing elbow next week, knocking him out for a year and a half. Donnelly has known about it for several days, but withheld the information so that the Red Sox could have a stronger bargaining position at the deadline. Now it all makes sense.

I think Theo was hoping that Kenny Williams would back down at the last minute on Jermaine Dye, but that guy is a really stubborn SOB. My question is, what happened to Bobby Kielty? Are they hoping to sign him as a free agent?
