Wily Mo traded to Washington

As expected, the Red Sox announced the trade of Wily Mo Pena to the Washington Nationals with cash considerations for a player to be named later. Pena had to be moved in order to make room on the active roster for Clay Buchholz, who is currently pitching the first game of a doubleheader versus the Angels. Jacoby Ellsbury is slated to take that same roster spot for game 2, then he will be immediately sent back down to Pawtucket so that Bobby Kielty can finally join the team.

I’m glad that we were able to get something back for Pena, who has the potential to become a 35 HR guy for the Nationals. He’s a good guy, and I hope that the playing time there works out for him. We are much better off with Kielty on our bench, who can start in right against lefties and be a veteran defensive replacement.

BTW, the Sox have just scored four in the first against John Lackey, so Buchholz has a very good shot to get his first big league win.
