Having Manny might have been nice

In the sweep by the Yankees (I had to force myself to type that), we were without Manny Ramirez for over two games. How much would it have helped to have him in that lineup?

Besides the 2-5% protection boost he would have provided for Big Papi, here are Manny’s lifetime numbers against the pitchers we faced:

Roger Clemens
.180/.317/.380 with 3 HR and 6 RBI in 50 AB

Luis Vizcaino
.167/.444/.667 with 1 HR and 1 RBI in 6 AB

Kyle Farnsworth
.286/.286/.429 with 0 HR and 0 RBI in 7 AB

Mariano Rivera
.216/.268/.297 with 1 HR and 9 RBI in 37 AB

Chien-Ming Wang
.591/.654/.864 with 2 HR and 5 RBI in 22 AB

Joba Chamberlain
DNF (Did Not Face)

Edwar Ramirez
DNF

There’s a good chance game 3 would have been very different; let’s hope that Manny’s obliques can recover well. Until then, we’ll probably see a lot of Jacoby Ellsbury and Eric Hinske in left field.
