Let’s hear it for the defense

The Red Sox defense got some love recently in the Globe. Boston’s D is tied for second in the AL in fielding percentage (with the Yankees), and we’ve gotten some truly stellar play out of the right side of our infield and in center. Kevin Youkilis is building upon an AL-record streak of 181 errorless games, and is making some really tough plays at first. Dustin Pedroia is proving his grit and baseball smarts by earning Gold Glove consideration at second. His diving stab saved a no-hitter by Clay Buchholz not too long ago.

And let’s not forget Coco Crisp, whose speed and tenacity have resulted in more than his fair share of hits and runs taken away. Who cares about the throwing when the fielding is this good?
