Give Tek some credit where it’s due

BTW, I’ve read about 1,000 news articles today on Josh Beckett and how he’s really coming through as the ace of this staff, how he performs under pressure, etc. And he deserves all of that. But how come no one’s talking about Jason Varitek and the way he called that game? Tek, you’re awesome man. If you agree, please comment and give our captain some love!

It cannot be a coincidence that Tek called a no hitter, an 8.2 inning no hitter (Until Shill shook him off), and a few complete games to boot (this year), or that the FO and all the pitchers give him a lot of credit. Also, last year when he was out, we did very poorly (although that could be a coincidence).

It’s easy to point the finger at him when things are going poorly, because he is the Captain. Now I think it is unjust.

Considering him a great defensive catcher, as he is, his 17 home runs, and 68 RBIs is a huge bonus.

Okijima isn’t the hero in the shadows, it’s Tek.

No one ever complained about Tek as a catcher but as a hitter this year he has been horrible and he needs to step it up.

Tek has definitely lost some bat speed, but he’s come up big when it’s counted this year. In close and late situations, he’s .351/.435/.568 this year in 74 AB. His average has suffered, but he hit 5 HR in September and he’s ranked 4th in OPS among AL catchers with over 300 AB (5th overall if you include both leagues). Seriously, Varitek is not the problem in this offense.

I know it’s a bit late (8pm). But anyone have predictions on Matsuzaka’s preformance tonight? My father thought in down to earth range of 6IP 3ER. Josh got my expectations up, and I’m predicting 8IP 1ER.

Define ahows up when its counted. I don’t care what the numbers say because he has done nothing when I have been watching games. In Baltimore he left the bases loaded twice in one game. In fact I remember him hitting once and that was when he pinch hit a 3 run homer.

Sorry every time I have watched him he has done nothing and yes he is a huge part of the problem. What he does vs other catchers means nothing if he doesn’t do it when teh game is on the line and he doesn’t.
