Jed Lowrie to start tonight

Red Sox Nation, prepare to see another product of our farm system. 24-year old infielder Jed Lowrie will make his Major League debut tonight against Paul Byrd and the Cleveland Indians. Said Francona:

He’ll play… Where, I’m not sure. He’ll play third or short, we’ll see. Probably third. Wouldn’t mind giving ‘Case’ a day off. I’ve already told [Lowrie] to get ready to play somewhere.

I actually thought that Lowrie would play more, but Sean Casey‘s hot bat and good play at first has thrown a kink into that.

I’ve profiled Lowrie here. He’s a smart ballplayer (he went to Stanford) with a live bat for a middle infielder. Not the fastest guy out there, but makes up for it in a lot of other ways. It should be fun to see him take some cuts against Byrd, a noted strike-thrower.
