Moss optioned to Triple-A

With his stay on the 15-day DL completed, Brandon Moss was activated and sent to Pawtucket. Like Jed Lowrie, he will stay on call at AAA in case of any injuries at the Major League level.

Even though he could be a good 4th outfielder right now, he will stay in this role until the situation with Jacoby Ellsbury and Coco Crisp resolves itself one way or another. I’m beginning to think that a deal for Crisp will be difficult. Teams have been rather gunshy about trading prospects for veterans this season, and a lot of guys are being released outright or sent to Triple-A who might be obtained in other years. As we draw nearer the trade deadline, this could change.

If another emergency need arises on the Major League club, Moss could be valuable trade bait; several organizations have already shown interest.
