Bountiful draft harvest for the Sox

Everybody wants to be a Red Sox these days. After winning it all twice in the the past four seasons and being hailed for their excellent player development program and even being called the “model” baseball organization, Theo Epstein and company have had little trouble signing draft picks by the bushel. The latest report has the Sox successfully signing their top 16 picks before the signing deadline yesterday.

It’s a talented class, and should really keep this farm system bristling with top prospects for the next few years, at least. The final three players to sign were Pete Hissey (4th round), Ryan Westmoreland (5th round) and Tyler Wilson (13th round). Westmoreland, in particular, was considered to be locked into a full ride at Vanderbilt University, but the Sox were able to pry the native Rhode Islander away yesterday. He was considered a first-round talent by many scouts going into the draft.
