I wonder why the desire for Coco has increased so much from last offseason to this one. I wonder if scouts saw something in his plate approach this year that they liked a lot better. Regardless, it’s a good thing. Crisp is a good everyday player, and I hope he gets to do that with another club (for the right price).

Excellent work with the blog. Always interesting.

Hey Pat, welcome back. Glad to hear from you again.

As to why Crisp is in demand this offseason compared to last, I see two new reasons:

    1. Crisp’s defensive work last year especially has gotten a lot of press, and increased his perceived value as a centerfielder. His ability to produce off the bench this season was a positive as well.

    2. His .283/.344/.407 line this season is not quite what he was back in 2004-2005, but a big improvement since the whole fractured finger thing (2006-2007). He’s trending upward again offensively, and showing more confidence at the plate. Crisp has improved as a baserunner in Boston as well. His contract and .315/.392/.403 second half is very tempting for GMs looking for a bargain.
