Links: Papi and more

David Ortiz is back, slimmer and trimmer (see this photo),and his wrist is no longer clicking. Watch out, American League. I wouldn’t underestimate a guy who, even with some major physical ailments last season, would have hit 32 HR and 122 RBI had he reached his usual playing time (about 150 games).

Mike Lowell is ahead of schedule, and thinks he can be ready for Opening Day.

Julio Lugo has added about 5 lbs of muscle, and considers himself the man to beat out for the shortstop job. We’ll see about that, but he has to improve his defense.

Not all the news from the physicals was good. J.D. Drew’s back continues to be a problem, even with an offseason of rest. Given the outfield situation, This could become an issue rapidly if Rocco Baldelli isn’t ready to go when needed. Brad Wilkerson’s deal became official this week, possibly in response to this situation.
