Wakefield to the DL; who loses their roster spot?

Clay Buchholz made the start last night in place of Tim Wakefield, who is battling minor back issues on the DL. In his second attempt, Buch didn’t exactly wow us, lasting only four innings against the Rangers. I’m not panicking, but you see why the Sox weren’t quite committed to go with him the whole season. A few of those short starts, and that bullpen starts getting taxed very quickly.

For what it’s worth, John Henry told Red Sox Nation over Twitter not to expect any major moves at this year’s deadline. Sorry, Nick Cafardo and Sean McAdam. It may be that Sox ownership has decided to tighten the purse strings, and it could cost us unless we can get people back healthy. That offense has been, well, offensive.

In order to make room for Adam LaRoche, I think it’ll be Mark Kotsay who gets DFA’d. Don’t know if anyone will claim him, and I don’t care that much.
