As the minor leagues wrap up their seasons, there’s a lot of activity to report on. Adam Kilgore gives his nominations for best performances at each position. Congratulations to the Lowell Spinners, who won the Stedler Division title this year.
The Red Sox announced the signing of 19-year old Cuban defector Jose Iglesias this week. The shortstop, who has drawn rave reviews of his defense, signed a 4-year deal worth a reported $8.2M and will debut in the AFL this year.
Ryan Westmoreland had successful surgery to repair his broken collarbone this week. He sustained the injury after running into the wall making a highlight reel catch in Lowell on August 28.
Because Chris Carter’s trade to the Mets was blocked by the Yankees, the Sox sent first baseman Eddie Lora to the Mets to complete the deal instead. Lora, from the Dominican Republic, is seen as having very good power potential, but has yet to translate any of that raw talent into good numbers. He played for the Gulf Coast League Red Sox this year.
