Links: Mills gone, Sox meet Chapman, more

Brad Mills has been tapped as the new manager of the Houston Astros, and Terry Francona is happy for his good friend. Word is that the Sox may promote from within, and the rumors are swirling around current Pawtucket manager Ron Johnson.

The Red Sox met with Aroldis Chapman this week, but it’s not clear how serious the talks were; he’s met with at least nine other teams, which to me spells bidding war. Meanwhile, Yusei Kikuchi will play for the Seibu Lions in the Nippon League next year.

Casey Kelly is doing it with the stick in the AFL; maybe his chances at shortstop are not quite sunk yet.

To those of you who are thinking (or hoping) we might trade Daisuke Matsuzaka, it doesn’t look like it’ll happen. He’s finally coming around to the Red Sox way of thinking, and should be more manageable in the future. We’ll see what kind of shape he reports in next March.

It’s doubtful that the Sox will promote anyone from the minors to start the year, for those of you pulling for Josh Reddick in left next April. I am in full agreement; there’s no one who’s quite ready yet.
