Links 11-28-2009: Jacoby Ellsbury, overrated baserunner?

I came a cross a couple of recent baserunning studies (here and here), and I was interested to see how good Jacoby Ellsbury is. I looked at their leaderboards, but his name was nowhere to be found despite leading the league in steals this year. The study by Colin Wyers puts Ells at +2.4 runs, and Baseball Prospectus has Ellsbury at +5.4 runs. The Red Sox as a team graded out as just average, despite having a number of regulars who are known as “smart” baserunners (J.D. Drew, Dustin Pedroia, Jason Bay).
