Adrian Beltre can be considered historically good at 3B defense, according to Dave Cameron. Check out his highlight reel below, if you aren’t convinced (via Peter Abraham and Amalie Benjamin). ZiPS likes Beltre to put up a 97 OPS+ in Fenway this year, and there is some upside if he is completely healthy.
Mike Cameron is another player who has been just excellent over his career in CF, and will make a huge difference in run prevention, says David Pinto. He links to an interesting NY Times article, showing how Cameron tracks fly balls uniquely.
Tommy Bennett at Beyond the Boxscore has developed his DiamondView visualizations, summarizing player ability in four key areas: on-base, power, baserunning and defense. It’s a solid idea, and executed really well. Here’s the team page for the 2009 Red Sox.
The Red Sox made a bunch of personnel changes throughout the organization, which are detailed here at the Extra Bases blog. Amiel Sawdaye was named Director of Amateur Scouting, replacing the departed Jason McLeod.
